What does it really mean to have a Mercury in detriment or fall? Is it useful to think of these Mercuries as "weak" in a traditional sense, or simply "different" in a modern sense? Featuring anecdotes and case studies as well as channeled insight on the planet Mercury, this lecture explores how neurodivergence may intersect with astrology, and how both can teach us about the ills of capitalism.
Participants will walk away with: an expanded view of what is possible and probable for debilitated Mercuries to achieve, a critical take on what "achievement" even means in a capitalist world, and the ways in which our infinite potential crashes up against our lived reality in both a birth chart and in life.

“Rethinking the Astrology of Fatness” offers a critical look at the way contemporary astrology addresses weight, bodies, and fatness in the natal chart and through astrological timing. Grounded in an understanding of systemic fatphobia and filtered through the lens of fat liberation, this talk will break down how the lived experience of fat people is misaligned with certain astrological assumptions and how astrologers can shift and nuance their approach to discussing the planets’ influence on bodies.

As the systems and structures that we've been born into continue to fall, many astrologers are working to decolonize our understanding of the planets and highlight how their energies are complicit to the establishment of the current world order. However, these beings pre-date any human being or human-made system and were witness to conditions that thrived before capitalism and white supremacy subjugated the Earth. If we're open to listening, we can work with the planets to envision ways of being before/after white supremacy and capitalism and Reimagine the Planets Through Indigeneity.

Sarah Rubio Amaya (she/her) is a psychic medium, healer, astrologer, and human design reader. Adina (she/her) is a lesbian jewish astrologer currently based in NYC. She holds a BA in Folklore and Mythology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies and is currently earning an MA in clinical psychology with a focus on Spirituality, Mind, and Body. Adina’s astrological practice explores the relationship of self to the personal, interpersonal, structural, and cosmic in a way that fosters self-compassion and deep exploration. Jalen
Jalen is a Black Queer Astrologer living in Metro Detroit. Jalen is a Traditional Astrologer, who focuses on understanding how our knowledge of astrology and the planets is inhibited by capitalism and white supremacy. Their astrological practice, “The Chalk of the Sky” seeks to use the language of the stars to help black people re-contextualize our place in the cosmos and lead us towards healing and liberation.
