BOOKS

These books are listed from beginner level (just starting) to more advanced (active students), but all are important texts to consider! I have linked some books through Am*zon for convenience but I suggest you check your local bookshops, purchase used books from abebooks.com, or other retailers before major retailers like Amazon.

You Were Born For This
by Chani Nicholas

An amazing primer to learn about your Sun, Moon, Ascendant and Ascendant ruler through traditional concepts but in an incredibly digestible way. I highly recommend this book for anyone at the beginning of their astro journey.

Astrology, Psychology & The Four Elements
by Stephen Arroyo

Great for any student but especially those who are interested in a more psychological and Jungian framework. This was one of my first astro reads and remains one of my all-time favorites, for a thorough understanding of the four elements is crucial to astro basics. I just love the way Arroyo writes and recommend checking out more of his books.

Astrology and the Authentic Self
by Demetra George

This book is sort of an all-in-one when it comes to learning how to use astrology as an effective tool and learning a framework through which to synthesize a chart. Demetra George is a living astro legend, and her work is so easy to digest and simply top notch. Anyone looking to start or improve their client work would benefit from this book.

Charlie Obert’s work is a great and affordable resource. The link above takes you to his website where you can purchase his books as ebooks (pdfs) for lower prices than the physical copies (however, if you prefer physical copies, you shouldn’t have trouble finding them online). This book is a comprehensive guide on traditional astrology techniques and would be helpful for anyone beginning to dive into trad astro. Check out his other books as well!

by Helena Avelar & Luis Ribeiro

I highly recommend this book for any new student to astrology who yearns to understand the underlying order to the cosmos. This is a textbook-like book that covers everything you need to know about traditional astrology. You can also purchase their workbook that goes along with this text, Traditional Astrology Course: Essential Concepts & Interpretation Basics.

PODCASTS

The Astrology Podcast
hosted by Chris Brennan

This is one of the best free resources available to learn astrology, period. There are over two hundred and fifty episodes of the show which features introductions to important astrological concepts, theories, and techniques, interviews with leading astrologers, monthly forecast episodes and so much more. This show has been one of my primary learning tools throughout my astro journey and I cannot stress the importance of it enough! If you become a patron there are a ton of great bonuses you can receive including early access, the ability to attend live recordings, and access to other episodes only available for patrons.

Magic Of The Spheres
hosted by Sabrina Monarch

Sabrina is an amazing evolutionary astrologer who records extremely in-depth conversations with spiritualists of all types. I truly enjoy every episode and while they aren’t all astrology related, there is so much to gain from every conversation. If you like listening to deeply soulful folks discuss topics related to spirituality, ecology, and ways we can be better, more fulfilled humans, you’ll get a lot out of this podcast. I was on an episode where we discussed Millennials and Gen Z that was a pleasure to record.

What’s Your Sign Podcast hosted by Julia Loken, Stevie Anderson, & Lisa Chanoux.

An astrology podcast hosted by three comedians? What more could you ask for? This show is a delight to tune into. They break down specific astrological topics in ways that are so helpful for newbies and students of astrology. Their conversations and interviews are super fun to listen to and you can learn a lot! I was on a recent episode where we discussed my astro journey, and had a blast playing F/M/K with celebs who share my Sun & Moon sign!

APPS &
SOFTWARE

CHANI by Chani Nicholas

This is the app you've been waiting for!!! I am beyond excited that I can finally talk about Chani Nicholas' app CHANI, the astro app of your dreams. I'm super proud to be a contributor to this app and I'm stoked that it's finally out in the world. In CHANI, you can see your birth chart, get interpretations of your placements, see the current planetary weather and what's to come, and it comes with guided meditations, a digital journal, and a lot more. PLUS it uses Whole Sign Houses and traditional rulerships!!!! This will be my #1 recommended app going forward and I encourage you to check it out.

Luna - Cloud-based Astrology Software

This is the software I use. It’s very accessible at just $3/month or $25/year. It’s pretty basic but has most of what you need. All updates are free and automatic, and they’re working on adding more features! They are prompt in responding to any tech issues and have great customer service. I’ve been using Luna for almost a year and I love it! Plus, you can add the website to your phone home screen to use as an app, for free!

Solar Fire

This software is for PC only, but it is by far the most extensive software available. It’s current cost is $360, which is steep, and doesn’t include updates, however it has everything that you need and is highly customizable. I have never used this software but it comes recommended by many professionals.

Astro Gold

Astro Gold is by the creators of Solar Fire, can be used on Mac & PC and is very extensive. It costs $230. There is also an app available for $40 (iOS + Android). Most of my friends & colleagues seem to use AstroGold and seem to be very happy with it! It has everything you need, and certainly more features than Luna, and is customizable as well.

Time Passages

Time Passages is a software available on both Windows & iOS, plus as a mobile app for both iOS and Android. I’ve been using the Time Passages mobile app for about five years and have loved it (although I’m using Luna more nowadays). The computer software is $60 and the mobile app has a free version, but the Pro version is $30 and worth it in my opinion, if you’re looking for an easy to use app that provides progressed charts, solar arc charts, transit charts AND horoscopes and descriptions for all placements.

ORGANIZATIONS

AYA - Association for Young Astrologers

$20 / year to be a member with so many great benefits including a monthly Dinner & Drinks event which features astrologer every month sharing their work. They also have an active Discord channel for members and other member benefits, including discounts on other organization memberships. I highly recommend any new astrologer join AYA!

AFAN - Association for Astrological Networking

$30 / year to be a member ($25/year for students). AFAN is the go-to org for community and networking opportunities. They host monthly webinars for their membership base, study halls, and other opportunities to connect with other astros across the globe, including their mentorship program. I love being a member of AFAN!
